To paint a bedroom emerald green or not?

Our master bedroom is west facing and not very big...11ft by 8 and a half ft. I would absolutely love to paint the walls a really bold emerald green but I don't know if this would make the room just too dark. My other idea is to paint the walls pink (a not too girly pink to appease DH) and go for dark green bedding.

Has anyone gone for darker walls in a small room?

Never have myself but I have viewed quite a few houses this year with darker smaller rooms. Things I have noted from doing so:

- You have to be really bloody good at painting and keeping lines straight. Even the slightest deflection or wobble becomes so much more noticeable when it's against a bright white ceiling or skirting board.

- It depends on the type of property it is sometimes (just an opinion, not fact obviously). Darker colours always seemed to work a lot better in older or victorian type properties, but looked a bit weirder in newer homes.

I have an emerald green hallway and I love it.
I also have a pink (Nancy's Blushes) bedroom and love that too.

We have emerald green in our living room, it's Verdigris from the F&B colours of nature collection and it looks beautiful. The room does however have windows on 3 sides but the contrast with the light is gorgeous. Personally I'd have it in our bedroom too if I'd thought of it earlier. I believe it's also shown in a children's bedroom on the website, only one word, lush.

I have a dark Green small North facing front room and I love it, but it's very Green not at all Teal-y.

It is a lovely calming colour if you get it right and I am toying with getting a similar one for the bedroom because of the effect!

I'm thinking of using this kind of colour in the living room, it would look great with the Christmas tree!

Bold colours are beautiful. Totally agree with the importance of a clean line next to white paint.

No. Emerald green sounds awful for a bedroom.

Do it!!! Sounds lovely

Post a picture... everywhere white here, looking for bold inspiration

Yes! I want to do this when we move house. We've got soft hazy greys and pinks at the mo and I want something really dark and crisp with white on the other walls

I have one wall almost emerald green and 3 walls pink. The curtains match. I didn't care what DH thought I just did it. Tbf, he doesn't cAre either. I also painted the ensuite pink as a quick cover up
To get rid of the dark brown it was. That needs redoing.

Go for it I've just bought green and pink bedding and am planning to redecorate my room in these colours. Gorgeous combination. Be brave, be bold!

If you're going to go dark look at Abigail Aherne for inspiration. I have a small study in a navy colour and it looks great. I don't really like dark with white though - it should be dark with dark. ( check out her style to see what I mean). I don't like the idea of emerald green though as I associate it as a bright not a dark - I prefer bedrooms to feel calm not vibrant. A dark forest green would be amazing though in a period house. As far as pink goes I like millennial pink although I dare say there's lots around.

I've got darkish green in the dining room. All our rooms have picture rails, so the colour doesn't go right up to the ceiling - I think that can make dark colours easier in smaller rooms

We painted our second bedroom in a deep green. It's not a massive room so we painted the wall behind the bed in the green, then the rest of the walls in cream and added green bedding and curtains in the exact same green. It looks wonderful. I think all green would have been too much.

Another vote for F&B verdigris - we used it in our sons bedroom and it's a beautiful colour.

@Magicbabywaves my kitchen is Nancy's blushes, such a nice colour!

OP go for it! Verdigris is a lovely colour. My bedroom is F&B Studio green, it's really dark and cosy, I don't think it looks small either smile

Oh I love some of these ideas. Maybe a darker green colour but just on one wall is an idea. Sadly it's not a lovely period property with picture rails.... it's a 1980s built house!

I got looking online and came across this green and pink combination that I like.

Invest heavily in Frog Tape (proper stuff, it's the only one I've found that works!) for your straight lines.

It's so bloody satisfying to peel off - but make sure you do it when the paint is still wet!

We had a dark bedroom in our old bedroom. It was a huge room. However I don't think that matters. It looks so luxurious with plain cotton bedding etc.

@CarolinaWeeper I have a similar colour scheme to the picture you posted (including the West Elm furniture). It's not a small room but I think dark walls in a smaller bedroom make it cosy. It's still a work in progress so excuse the painting stuff.

CarolinaWeeper Sun 13-Dec-20 18:24:17

@TattiePants your room is absolutely beautiful!

I love emerald green. Do it! I have hankered after it but have no more rooms to paint ( 2 lovely pink rooms though).
